ON-Demand computing Models are in demand
The Centre for Supercomputing at CERT is the only other Blue Gene ON-DEMAND centre in the world. The centre provides a flexible solution to supplement in-house compute intensive resources with external capacity on a variable (short term) or dedicated basis. The On-Demand environment provides a pay-per-use model enabling clients to meet their High Performance Computing (HPC) need without the heavy investment in infrastructure.
The key objectives of offering the Blue Gene On-Demand to clients are:
-
To add value to our customers by providing them a means to address varying IT demands and be more responsive to the business needs. Thus, clients can gain access to the Blue Gene system by paying only for capacity reserved. Clients contract for variable power and services to meet short term needs as well as planned or unplanned peak workloads. Accessing the Blue Gene through the Centre for Supercomputing helps clients quickly tap Blue Gene power while helping to reduce financial and technical risk.
-
To provide a means for our customers to better manage their business by allowing them to apply the optimal technology to their problem, while avoiding a long-term technology commitment, a multi-year capital purchase justification, and a potential costly data center build-out.
Under-capacity & inability to respond may = lost opportunity
Over-capacity & under-utilization may = low ROA |
