The Center of Excellence for Applied Research & Training (CERT) announced today that it has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Unibeton Readymix company in Abu Dhabi, aimed at providing a fleet deployment and management system for Unibeton’s Readymix trucks and support vehicles. CERT and United Arab Emirates University in collaboration with IBM, has produced a satellite-based Telematics system designed for the collection and dissemination of information, in particular vehicle-based electronic systems to allow for vehicle tracking and positioning, on-line vehicle navigation and information systems and emergency assistance. The CERT Telematics system was developed in the United Arab Emirates as collaboration among CERT, UAEU and IBM, and is the first deployment of this technology in the region. It is believed that this is the first major technology developed entirely in the UAE marking a significant milestone in the UAE’s pathway to becoming a global innovator and producer of knowledge.

Using the technology Unibeton Readymix, one of the largest concrete readymix manufacturers in the UAE, will deploy Telematics to optimize the timing and delivery of its products to construction sites to ensure the best quality of materials and just-in-time arrival. Trucks can be rerouted around traffic congestion, and can have immediate servicing provided in the event of breakdowns or emergencies. Replacement vehicles can be deployed to ensure the customer receives uninterrupted service. This technology will position Unibeton as an industry leader, and will set a new benchmark for expected levels of service in the construction industry.

CERT and UAEU in close strategic collaboration with IBM, is committed to harnessing leading edge Telematics technology to not only enhance the profitability of businesses across different industry sectors but also position UAE at the forefront of Telematics deployment world wide.

“Our entry into Telematics is an integral part of our long-term strategy for developing IP and jobs within UAE,” said Dr.Kamali, Vice Chairman, CERT

CERT Telematics based Fleet Management System for Unibeton is built on a front-end device, C-Box, developed in collaboration with IBM. Designed as an after-market device it can be installed any automotive vehicle. Equipped with GPS, GSM/GPRS as well as radio frequency wireless technology the device employs the most advanced and secure interface for machine-to-machine (M2M) and human-to-machine (H2M) communications.

Unibeton Control Centre will be able to monitor quite a list of critical parameters related to the operation of the drum rotation and direction of the trip such as
1. Start Time from Plant
2. Arrival Time on Site
3. Duration on site
4. Duration Discharging for Truck Mixers
5. Duration Pumping for Concrete Pumps
6. Duration of trip towards site from Plant
7. Depart time from Site
8. Return Time to Plant
9. Duration of trip towards plant from Site
10. Total Trip Km
11. Total Trip Hours
12. Total Engine Hours
13. Total Pumping Hours per supply
14. Total Waiting Hours during each trip
15. Total Waiting Hours between trips or supplies
16. Unscheduled Stops
17. Speeding incidents
18. G force violations (Harsh Braking / acceleration & cornering)
19. Log Km & hours worked for each vehicle
20. Alert for scheduled servicing
