CERT – The Next Generation

His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan founded CERT in 1996 as the commercial arm of the Higher Colleges of Technology. 

It was the vision of our Chancellor that The Center of Excellence for Applied Research and Training would contribute to the growth and development of applied research in the United Arab Emirates, and also make available to the public and private sector the intellectual and educational resources of the Higher Colleges as well as the best programs of our education collaborators from around the world.

Under the leadership of its Founding Director, Dr. Tayeb Kamali, CERT has grown to be, by some estimations, the largest private education provider in the Middle East. 

Working with the family of Higher Colleges, CERT provides training in languages, health and environment, work readiness, entrepreneurship, management, engineering, financial services and a range of corporate training customized for the needs of industry.  CERT’s clients include the largest public and private sector organizations in the region including the UAE Military, and the Presidential Court   

CERT is developing technology and applied research in collaboration with technology leaders such as Intel, Microsoft and IBM.  In 2006 CERT will become the first organization in the South Asia, Middle East, North Africa region to offer supercomputing power through its acquisition of the IBM Blue Gene; the fastest and most muscular computing platform in the world.

 Nine years from its birth, CERT is at the threshold of its next generation. Through the first education and technology Initial Public Offering in the Middle East the public will have an opportunity to participate in the building of an integrated community of research and learning.

CERT Education and Research City will provide a faculty and staff village, an early childhood education center, a School for Education of Gifted and Talented Children, a college, a university, a national research center, an international technology incubator, as well as an hotel and conference center. The city will have its own television and media hub dedicated entirely to the advancement and reporting of innovations in technology and education.  This city will welcome the participation of the finest colleges, universities and educators to serve as the beacons of light envisioned by His Highness the Late President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
